Abstract

Two separate welding shield frames in a simple carpentry construction to protect against the radiation heat and luminosity of welding rays, but allowing for continued perception of one's work environment, have a static transparent glass and a dark glass which may slide. The welding shield may be worn on the shoulders or be hand-held (Fig 3).

Description

Open-sided face protection against light rays during welding or Open-sided welding visor To protect a person against the radiation, heat and luminosity of welding rays, and their immediate afterglow a welding shield frame was devised, consisting of a standard sce-through glass in a fi-ame which is static and a standard dark glass in a sliding frame, the wooden frames attached by wooden struts and as such worn on the shoulders by means of two pliable hars holding the frames.
The advantages conceived are the following: Perception of one's work environment is still possible; The face is twice covered from the front but the sides are open; The relatively simple construction allows for a clear vision with the dark glass frame being easily slid aside with one hand; The shoulder rests give a bit of weight to the top of the body to counter effect the relative "lightness" of touch. required of the hand holding the welding rod sleeve or flame-thrower.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims
Two wooden frames, each holding a protective glass, one clear-white and static 1, one dark and in a sliding frame 2 along the ridge which is closest to the face 3.
The glass frames are connected via two supports at about the length of the glass shield apart4 & .
The distance of the eye to the clear glass frame may yield a more distant objectification for the eye lenses' concentration.
Heat, sparks and radiation fly against the see-through glass within it's frame 1.
But the welder is not prohibitively cut off from sensing his or her work situation.
The dark glass, with the bottom part of its frame rounded off, slides within a hollow ridge. and is held by a guide 6 with two bolts on top of the frame. One bolt has room to move horizontally.
Radiation is shielded from the eye by the see-through glass. If one needs both hands to world with, a durable type of c!oth can be attached to one of the protrusions of the frame to prevent light reflecting on the dark shield which then is used in a static position: if large sparks with a high parabola type path are likely, a cloth would protect the scalp as well. An apron can be worn suspended from the shouldel stl uts 8 & which are 3ft. long each.
When work is to be done with the head tilting down 40 deg. or rnore the sliding frame can be held on a catch 7. Two laces 10 attatched to the front of the frame 1 fastened across the shoulders position the face protection to optimum stability.
In the hand-held mask, Figure 2, the dark shield frame is fixed 2; what is identical is the glass shields' distance apart by at leas: a distance of the length of the glass. The functions of the glasses are nfter all quite distinct. Protrusive ends of frames allow it to be laid down so the glasscjs don't touch other objects on a work surface.
In addition a separate single clear-white glass frame, Figure 3, hand held; the object being an aid to observing metal sUlfaGeb after their being welded while heat and radiation are still active and sting the eyes.
    - CLAIMS - (continued) As the simple construction allows for the glass (es) to be replaced via the unscrewing of two screws that hold one side of the frame to the other sides and the removal of a broken or grit-splattered glass and repositioning of a new (at approximately the cost of respectively 5 or 15 cigarettes) with the two screws re-set; dirty work does not bring excessive costs along.
