533,496. Welders' eye shields. OSTROWSKI, T. Feb. 15, 1939, No. 4954. [Class 97 (i)] Relates to a shield of the kind comprising a casing 1 carried on a handle 13 and having a viewing aperture covered by glasses arranged one behind the other, one 4 transparent and fixed, and the other 5 dark and hinged or slidable so that it can be moved out of its operative position by means operated by a lever 11 actuated by the hand holding the handle. According to the invention, the operated means comprises a rod or link 10 directly connecting the lever 11 with the dark glass when this is slidable (Fig. 4, not shown) or with an arm 8 secured to the hinge pin 7 of the dark glass when this is hinged. (Fig. 2). The lever 11 shown is bell-cranked, and is actuated by a push rod 15. The hand is protected by a guard 2.
