Abstract

704,714. Goggles. ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., Ltd., and BAKER, H. C. F. Feb. 13, 1953 [Feb. 14, 1952], No. 3907/52. Class 97(1) A welder's helmet comprises a protective hood for the head and face having an observation aperture fitted with plain glass or other transparent material, and a dark, ultra-violet absorbing filter hinged to the hood above the aperture and held in two positions of stable equilibrium by a spring so that by a quick jerk of the head the filter can be moved from its upper position out of the line of sight to its lower position covering the viewing aperture. Fig. 2 shows the filter 16 in frame 15 held in its upper position of stable equilibrium by a spring 19. One end 17 of the frame 15 is hinged to allow insertion of the filter 16, and the frame 15 is pivoted at 14 to frame 11 fitted with plane glass 13. Movement of the head pivots the frame 15 to its lower position in which the spring 19 passes below the level of the hinge 14 to hold the frame 15 in that position.
