Abstract

777.764. Periscopes. GILLIE. J. C.. KENNEDY, S.. and LILLEY & GILLIE, Ltd.. J. March 8. 1956 [March 18, 1955], No. 7938/55. Class 97(1) A periscope is provided with two or more relatively inclined mirrors at the viewing position so that two or more persons may view simultaneously. The invention is described as applied to an arrangement for viewing a ship compass 3 by by a lens 4 to which is attached a cylindro-hemispherical casing 5 containing the mirrors. The main mirror 9, visible through an aperture 6 is pivoted at 8 to a frame 7 and may be clamped in its adjusted position by a set screw 11. The additional mirror 13 is also pivoted to the frame 7 and is urged by a spring 15 to the upper position shown in which a shutter 14 attached to the mirror 13 closes a second viewing aperture 12 in the casing. On manual pressure on a thumb piece 13a the mirror 13 is pivoted to the position shown in dotted lines allowing viewing through the aperture 12.
