Abstract

731,363. Face protestors. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., [formerly ANGLOIRANIAN OIL CO., Ltd.], and BAKER, H. C. F. June 5, 1953 [June 5, 1952], No. 14194/52. Class 97 (1). In a welder's shield having a viewing apertore filled with transparent protective material and an ultra-violet absorbing filter hinged thereto adjacent the aperture, spring means are provided between the shield and the filter to urge the latter into a position in which it covers the viewing aperture and a catch is provided to hold the filter away from the viewing aperture, against the action of the spring, the catch being capable of being released by movement of the hand holding the shield to allow the spring to pull the filter over the viewing aperture. As shown, the viewing aperture 12 in the shield 11 carries a plain glass 13 and has pivoted at 16 adjacent thereto' a frame 15 carrying the ultra violet filter 17. Portions 24, 25 projecting from the frame 15 carry a prod 26 to which is attached a spring 27 tending to turn the frame 15 about the pivots 16 and engaged by a pivoted catch 33 to hold the frame in the position shown. An articulated lever 29, 30 is connected at one end to the frame 15 and at the other to the handle 31 of the shield. Pressure of the thumb on a member 32 carried by the lever 29, 30 causes the catch 33 to disengage and allow the spring 27 to pivot the frame 15 to cover the aperture 12. In that position pressure on the member 32 pivots the frame against the action of the spring 27 and allows the catch 33 to hold the frame in the open position.
