Abstract

618,229. Valve generating circuits. LYNCH, A. C. April 27, 1945, No. 10577. [Class 40 (vi)] A thermionic valve oscillator comprises a tuned circuit connected to a driving circuit which is so operated as to produce a square potential waveform. The tuned circuit 3, 4 is connected by the resistance 2 to the output terminals of the amplifier 1, whose input is derived from the capacity or resistance potentiometer 5, 6. The amplifier 1 may be of known type, the gain being at least five times that necessary to produce oscillations, so that the output valve is overloaded and produces square waves. This action may be increased by the use of positive grid bias, in which case the oscillator may be arranged to be non-self-starting and used to indicate the arrival of a signal or the interruption of its power supply. Alternatively, diode or other limiters of known type may be employed, or gas-filled valves, or the output stage of the amplifier may comprise a trigger circuit of known type. In a modified arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown), a saw-tooth waveform is produced by the connection of an R.C. circuit across the amplifier output terminals.
