618,112. Dry shavers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Oct. 21, 1946, No. 31236. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1943. [Class 131] In a dry shaver the cutting plate provided with slits is provided with a ball bearing having races set at an angle such that thrusts both normal to the plate and in the plane of the plate are taken up by the ball bearing. As shown the cutting plate 1 having slits therein is mounted on the casing 14 by means of a ball bearing which comprises four ball races 5 ... 8 arranged, in the case of a rotatable or oscillatable cutting plate, to resist forces applied both normal to the plate and radially thereto. Fig. 1 shows races of which the races 5, 6 are carried by the cutting plate 1, race 7 by a ring 9 and race 8 by a plate 10 which is adjustable to take up play. In Fig. 2 the races 5 ... 8 are arranged at an angle # to the plane of the cutting plate which is less than that of a right angle, the race 8 being carried by an annular member 10 with upward flange the member being secured to the casing 14 by a nut 13. In the case of a reciprocating cutting plate the thrust of the cutting plate in its own plane is taken up by the bearing only in the direction normal to the reciprocation. The ball bearing may form a unit either with the cutting plate or with the holder.
