658,736. Dry shavers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. May 31, 1946, No. 16554. Convention date, March 18, 1942. [Class 131] In a dry shaver the face-contracting surface of the cutting plate 1 is provided with a central depression 8 and two or more concentric annular paths 2, 3 each pair of paths being separated by an annular depression 7 and the undersurfaces of the paths forming running surfaces 5, 6 for cutting parts 22, 23 of a cutting member 21. The paths are provided with apertures 4, 14 extending through the supporting side walls 9, 10, 11, 12. Each aperture is preferably a continuous radial slit in line with corresponding apertures in neighbouring paths and formed with flaring mouths in the walls 9, 10, 11, 12. The bottom and side walls of the annular depression may be thickened and the annular depression interrupted at 16 by strengthening ribs 17. If the cutting plate is sufficiently rigid the base 13 of the central depression may be omitted. A rotating or oscillating cutting member for use with the cutting plate comprises a number of cutting parts 22, 23 projecting from a plane surface 21 and located in the running surfaces 5, 6. In a modification in which the running surfaces are not in the same plane the cutting parts are resiliently secured together on a star-shaped member or the cutting parts in each running surface are united to form separate mechanical units which are resiliently coupled together so as to be movable relatively to each other.
