Abstract

A tetrakisazo dyestuff, which dyes leather in grey to black shades, and is also suitable for colouring footstuffs, is manufactured by coupling in acid medium one molecular proportion of tetrazotized benzidine with one of 1 : 8-aminonaphthol-3 : 6-disulphonic acid, coupling the resulting diazo-azo compound with one molecular proportion of diazotized aniline-2 : 5-disulphonic acid in alkaline medium, coupling the resulting diazo-disazo compound with one molecular proportion of m-aminophenol in alkaline medium, and finally coupling the trisazo compound so obtained with one molecular proportion of diazotized aniline-2 : 5-disulphonic acid in alkaline medium. Specification 580,122 is referred to.ALSO:As a black colouring material for foodstuffs may be employed the tetrakisazo dyestuff aniline -2:5-disulphonic acid ---> (alkaline) 1:8-aminonaphthol-3:6-disulphonic acid (acid) \sM- benzidine ---> (alkaline) m-aminophenol (alkaline) \sM- aniline-2:5-disulphonic acid.
