Abstract

617,214. Stoppers. WILEMAN, C., and BOOTH, E. J. Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23845. [Class 125 (iii)] A cover for preserve jars and other like containers having a projecting bead or rim at the mouth comprises a base ring 10 clipped on to the mouth of the container by tabs 13 engaging over the bead 21, and a separate lid 16 provided with a depending fulcrum element 18, having cylindrical arms 19 which are imprisoned in a space between the container and a pair of tabs 13a depending from the base ring 10. The base ring 10 has a narrow inturned top flange 12 and a vertical skirt portion from which the tabs 13 depend, the pair 13a being spaced close together and having outwardly bulging portions 14, which constitute a hinge with the cylindrical arms 19. The cover has spring tabs 20 to clip in position over the base ring or under the rim of the container. A resilient washer may be provided on the underside of the lid.
