Abstract

555,994. Stoppers. JONES, W. B., and WALLIS TIN STAMPING CO., Ltd. March 12, 1942, No. 3300. [Class 125 (iii)] A bottle or like container having an interrupted circumferential bead 15 near its rim and a lower uninterrupted bead 14 is provided with a re-sealing cap 19 having a downturned flange which before the cap is placed on the container is formed with inturned projections 20 which engage bayonet-joint wise beneath the interrupted bead 15 and with a locking band 17. The material of the cap is sufficiently springy and the relative dimensions of the inturned projections 20 are such as to enable the projections to spring over the interrupted bead if the cap is applied, e.g. in a machine, at a setting when the projections are not opposite interruptions in the bead 14. Additional, the locking band 17 is sufficiently springy to enable the band to give sufficiently to allow the projections to spring over the bead. The lower edge of the band 17 may be bent in under the continuous bead 14. The cap and band may be made of tin plate of 30 B.G. and S.W.G.
