617,124. Bungs. CHEVRIER, L. F. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25213. Convention date, June 9, 1945. [Class 21] A bung 2 secured in a screwed bush 1 has a flexible plug 4 closing a central bore J in the bung. The bung 2 is rendered fluid-tight within the bush by a flexible ring 3 fitting in circumferential recesses K in the bung and bush. Prior to entering the bush, the bung carries the ring 3 in a circumferential recess H but as the bung is forced home, the ring rolls upwards to engage the recesses K. Further sealing takes place by the engagement of seatings E on the bush. A disc seal 5 is pressed on to the bung and is held by a groove C in the bush. The seal 5 is torn away by a tab A attached to a weakened portion. In tapping, a plunger engages the plug 4 carrying it within the cask, when the contents flow out through holes D. The withdrawal of the plunger again lodges the plug 4 within the bung. The bung may be engaged by an expanding rod when its removal is desired.
