Abstract

In a froth-flotation process for separating coal from shale and clay an oil-in-water emulsion with or without emulsifying agents is added either to a slurry in water of the coal or to water fed to the dry coal. The usual collector reagents are used such as the wood distillate pine oil, wood creosote, or the coal distillates cresylic acid, creosotes or cresylic-creosote mixtures, and the emulsion may be introduced into the slurry at any desired point in the flotation circuit.
