Abstract
272,301. Williams, P. T., and Minerals Separation, Ltd. March 12, 1926. Flotation processes.-In a process for the froth-flotation separation of coal from coalbearing material, or the preferential separation of coal of low ash content from coat of higher ash content, there is employed a salt of an organic derivative of sulpho-thio-carbonic acid, for example, an alkali xanthate. The xanthate, &c., may be added direct to the flotation circuit or may be added to the washery circuit water before the material reaches the flotation stage. There may be further added a small quantity of an organic protective colloid such as starch, and the circuit liquor may be rendered alkaline by the addition of lime. The coal-bearing material may in some cases be separated into coarse and fine sizes which may be subsequently treated separately as above.
