[Classes 52 (i), 52 (ii) and 52 (iii)] In a bedstead, divan &c. of the kind comprising side and end frames comprising a rectangular space below the mattress-supporting surface in which space are provided drawers the frame members comprise flat panels and separate corner posts are provided to which the panels are secured during assembly. The side and end frame members 12, 13, preferably formed of sheet metal, are connected together by corner posts and each member comprises an upper and a lower section connected by panels 52 between which or in openings in which the drawers 19.. 22 are arranged to slide on runners 64, Fig. 8, welded to horizontal braces 15 .. 18 of box form provided at their ends with bridge pieces 58 having releasable fastenings, such as headed projections 59 engageable in slots in the angle pieces 61 welded to the frame members 12, 13. The corner posts each comprise a rounded outer wall 23 to which is welded an angle piece 24 against the sides of which abut, and are secured, the upper and lower sections of the frame members 12, 13. The upper end of the angle piece 24, which stops short of the upper end of the corner post, is closed by a plate 26 provided with a projection 27 for locating the mattress frame. The top rounded edge of the corner post has welded thereto a curved rod 31 the ends 32 of which engage the top edges of the frame members 12, 13. The upper and lower sections of the frame members 12 are formed of sheet metal bent to form outer and inner walls 35, 36 and 43, 45 respectively the outer walls 35, 43 having offset portions 40, 44 to which are welded panels 52 while the inner walls 36, 45 are bent to form flanges 38, 39 and 47, 48 respectively. A channel piece 34 is welded to the flanges 38, 39 while an angle piece 42 is welded to the flanges 47, 48. The ends of the upper and lower sections frame member 12 are interconnected by plates 54 which abut the corner posts and are releasably secured thereto by necked projections 55 engaging keyhole slots 28 in the corner posts. The frame members 13 are similarly constructed but are secured to the corner posts by screws 57, Fig. 4, engaging nuts 30 welded to the corner posts. The drawers 19.. 22 are of such sizes as to facilitate nesting when dismantled for packing.
