Abstract

616,359. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. March 22, 1946, No. 8925. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] In a thermionic valve the cathode is built up from three or more individual filament branches, each of which comprises one or more V's. Each branch is connected at one end to an external conductor individual to that branch, and at its other end to another external conductor. This construction enables the filament to be used on D.C. or single or polyphase A.C. without excessive hum. The Figure shows a construction suitable for use with three-phase alternating current. The three branches 1, 2, 3 are connected internally to a star point 7; the other ends of the branches and a connection from the star point are taken out through the wall of the envelope.
