Abstract
616,254. Planimeters. KERN & CO., Ltd. Feb. 13, 1945, No. 3595. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1943. [Class 106 (i)] A planimeter comprises a measuring roller made of transparent material with graduations inscribed on one of its lateral surfaces and a microscope for the reading thereof by transmitted light. In the form described with reference to Fig. 1, both the measuring roller 5 and the counting disc 7 are made of transparent material. A prism 10 projects part of the graduations of the measuring roller 5 through prisms 11 and 12 on to the objective 13 of a microscope. The prism 12 also projects part of the graduations of the counting disc 7 on to the objective 13. The pencil of rays issuing from the objective 13 is refracted by a prism 14 to the eyepiece 15 of the microscope arranged next to the tracing member 3. Illuminating apparatus may be arranged next to the measuring roller 5 comprising a condensing lens 16 and prism 17. In a modification, two measuring mechanisms may be provided as shown in Fig. 2 in which the images of parts of the graduations of measuring rollers 25, 25<1> are projected through prisms 31, 31<1> and 32, 32<1> on to the double prism 33 and thence on to the objective 36 of a microscope. The images of parts of the counting discs 30, 301 are projected through the prisms 34, 341 on to a double prism 35 and thence on to the objective 36. The arrangement is such that the two images of the parts of the graduations of the measuring rollers appear side by side above the images of the counting discs in the eyepiece 38 of the microscope.
