Abstract
615,285. Reflecting objectives. CINEMATELEVISION, Ltd., SAMSON, A. R. K., McCONNELL, E. D., and McMULLAN, D. Aug. 2, 1946, No. 23124. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XL (a)] An optical image formed on the fluorescent screen of a cathode-ray tube is projected by a concave mirror inside the envelope through a wall of the envelope and the envelope is divided into two chambers, the chamber containing the electron gun having a higher degree of vacuum than the other chamber. The concave mirror 7, Fig. 1, is in the chamber 9 containing the electron gun, and projects the image through the shell 5 which is spherical to correct for spherical aberration as described in Specification 613,608. The mirror 7 and shell 5 have different radii of curvature, but are concentric. The shell 5 may, however, be flat, and an aspheric correcting plate included inside the envelope. The aspheric plate may then constitute the glass partition 8 separating the two envelope chambers 9, 10, or may be positioned between the partition 8 and the shell 5. The mirror 7 is of glass and the shell 5 of a synthetic resin or plastic. In another embodiment, the mirror 21, Fig. 2, is in the chamber at the higher gas pressure, and the mirror 21 and shell 5 are both of synthetic resin.
