Abstract
614,716. Tubular heat-exchangers. PARRIS, C. W. July 22, 1946, No. 21786. [Class 64(iii)] For use in tubular heat-exchangers, e.g. economizers, tube bundles are each previously fabricated from a pair 1, 2 or pairs of tubular hairpin elements with or without an additional hairpin element, the elements being interdigitated with one another, the elements of each pair being arranged in reversed position with the end bends between the free ends, and held together by means of blocks 4, 5, plates, rings or equivalent in close pitched relationship on a circular pitch. The blocks 4, 5 &c. are shaped to be supported one upon another, or in holes in vertical walls or tube plates. The spacer blocks 4, 5 shown are square or rectangular in order that they may be built up to form the end and intermediate walls of the exchanger and have flanges 4a, 5a and packing rings 6 surrounding the tubes. Holes 8 are provided for bolting the blocks together. The free ends of the tubular hairpin elements 1, 2 are screw-threaded to take internally threaded flanges (not shown) for engaging similar flanges on the bends which are used to connect bundles, cup rings as described in Specification, 485,291, [Group XXVIII], being located between the abutting ends of the tubes 1, 2 and connecting' bends. The bends may alternatively be welded to the tubes. Specifications 501,202 and 521,469 also are referred to.
