Abstract

501,202. Serpentine - tube heatexchangers. PARRIS, C. W. Aug. 18, 1937, No. 22624. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii)] A tubular feed-water heater, steam superheater or like heat-exchanger is constructed from two tube coils A, B, each consisting of a number of pairs of tubes 1 with horizontal bends 1a at one end, and the free end of each pair being connected by diagonal bends 1b to ends of adjacent pairs. The coils are placed end to end and inserted one into the other so that the horizontal bends of one coil are inside the diagonal bends of the other coil. The tubes of each pair may be placed more closely together than the width of the horizontal bends. The tubes are spaced and supported by plates placed vertical between the tubes or at their bends and welded to them.
