Abstract

253,172. Wintle, H. March 11, 1925. Heating by electricity.-In an electric v-a'terheater of the type consisting of a sinuous flattened conduit, between the turns of which heating elements are interposed, the whole being clamped together, the conduit is built up of a number of elements each of which consists of two flattened tubes permanently connected at one end and provided with detachable screw or like connections at the other for attaching to the next element. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, the permanent connection g consists of a portion of the tube itself bent to an easy curve as shown, but it may consist of a short length of tube connected to the two tubes of the element by burring over, of a cast, soldered or brazed cap which may be provided with an inspection cover, or of one wall of the tube bent over and a plate secured by bolts &c. A heating- element d is placed between the two tubes of each element and the elements are separated by blocks c. The tubes are of rectangular crosssection to resist the pressure of the clamps and baffle plates may be arranged within them to lengthen the path traversed by the water.
