Abstract

614,337. Driving-gear. FERRAND, R. June 19, 1946, No. 18470. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1944. [Class 7 (ii)] In a variable-speed driving-gear in which a driven shaft 19 is connected by a free-wheel 18, a link 16, and an oscillating lever 14 to a crosshead piston 9, the pivot 21 of the lever 14 is adjustable transversely to the cylinder axis to alter the gear ratio. The pivot 21 comprises two trunnions on a sliding block 20 and two bearings which slide in grooves 23 when pushed by a forked member 25. The link may be pivoted to the ends of an intermediate member sliding in a slot parallel to the cylinder axis and having a pin-and-slot connection with the lever 14. A two-stroke engine is shown in which the charge is compressed between the piston and a cover 11.
