[Class 51 (i)] The air supply to a rotary grate is through air passages extending continuously along the length of the grate, the passages being supplied with air only in the arc covered by the fuel bed. As shown, the wall of the rotary combustion chamber 1 is formed with longitudinal air-passages 2 which are supplied through an arcuate slot in the stationary head 17, by a blower pipe 42. The slot extends through an angle corresponding to the fuel bed B to which the air is admitted through slots in the passages 2. The ends of the passages are closed except for small vents 6 which provide a limited air supply to the discharge zone of the fuel bed, to ensure complete combustion. The edge 60 of the chamber is formed as a single turn of a low pitch helix, so that ash lying on the stationary fireclay lining 59 of the mounting ring 12, is ejected slowly over the edge thereof into the discharge opening 133. The fuel inlet 44 is in the stationary head 17 which is adjustably supported by two arms 19, adjustment being permitted by spherical surfaces 10, 11 on the chamber 1 and ring 12. The ring also has a spherical surface 13 which permits the ring to be clamped in a position of adjustment by clamps 15. The wall of the chamber 1 opposite to the fuel bed is protected by an arcuate refractory baffle 56 which is held in arcuate slots 55, 57 in the ring 12 and head 17. A hood 30 encloses the chamber 1.
