Abstract

613,535. Aerials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 22, 1946, No. 5614. Convention date, March 2, 1945. [Class 40 (vii)] A directional aerial system suitable for an ultra-high-frequency airborne radar scanner comprises a single horizontal line of colinear dipoles 1a backed by a narrow plane vertical reflector 1, the whole assembly being rotatable about a vertical axis 4 by a motor 5 for azimuthal scanning. Each dipole is fed by an open wire transmission line which is disposed perpendicularly to the reflector and serves to support the dipole, the line being supported by an insulating insert 2 in the reflector, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the whole system may be mounted in a shallow blister on top or beneath an aircraft or it may be located in the nose of the aircraft, Fig. 3 (not shown).
