Abstract

710,467. Aerials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FISHER, F. J. May 15, 1953 [May 15, 1952], No. 12349/52. Class 40 (7) An aerial system comprises an open-ended waveguide 2 or other radiating or receiving element and an associated paraboloidal reflector 1 on which is mounted a vertex plate 5 to match a plane-polarized electromagnetic wave-signal radiated or received by the system to the waveguide or other element and to eliminate or reduce standing waves along the feeder. The system also includes a group of electrical conductors 6 spaced between the waveguide and the vertex plate and serving likewise to match a second signal, plane-polarized in a direction at right angles to the first, to the guide. Preferably the signals have different frequencies. The group of conductors 6 may consist of parallel conductors lying in a plane at right angles to the axis 4 of the system and supported by a ring or frame of either conductive or non-conductive material. It serves to reflect the signals of one polarization but to pass through to the plate 5 signals polarized at right angles. The plate 5 need not be a continuous surface but may consist of another group of parallel wires at right angles to, and in a plane parallel to, the group 6.
