Abstract
658,706. Duplex radio signalling; aerials; aerial coupling arrangements. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 5, 1949, No. 12062. Convention date, May 8, 1948. [Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vii)] A duplex directional aerial system for the operation of two independent channels of the same or slightly different frequencies, comprises a vertical dipole aerial 2, 3, and a horizontal dipole 4, 5, together with a paraboloid reflector 1 and a circular reflector 31. The dipole 2, 3 is fed by a coaxial line 7, 8, the outer conductor 8 of which is slotted at 26 for a quarter wavelength behind the aerial so as to match the balanced impedance of the aerial to the line, and for a quarter wavelength ahead of the aerial to effect a metallic insulator to provide a more balanced and decoupled electric field and to support reflector 31. The dipole 4, 5 is fed by a coaxial line formed by metallic shells 13, 14, which are coupled by an impedance matching cone 15 to a line formed by conductors 8, 12, in turn coupled by a tapered matching section to a coaxial line 9, 10. The shell 14 is slotted at 28 similarly to conductor 8.
