Abstract
612,407. Impedance transformers. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. June 28, 1943, No. 10471. Convention date, June 29, 1942. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An impedance transformer comprises a fixed length transmission line 83 connected by adjustable reactance means 87 to a second concentric line 98 which is connected by further adjustable reactance means 87<1> to a third fixed concentric line 83'. The length of section 98 and the difference in length of lines 83 and 83<1> are preferably odd multiples of one quarter of a wavelength. The adjustable elements are also concentric lines with moving plungers 88 and 88'. The latter bear spring fingers 93 and 96 which only make contact with the line at their tips 94 and 97 and are one quarter of a wavelength long. A current node thus occurs at the actual contact and power losses are thus minimized. The adjustable reactance means may be shunt connected to the fixed lines instead of series connected as shown and may be ganged for simultaneous adjustment. Specification 581,972 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an impedance transformer having two concentric line sections between which an adjustable short-circuited line is connected in shunt, the point of connection of this last being adjustable longitudinally of the first two sections. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
