122,893. Thompson, J. L. Feb. 5, 1918. Inductances.-The potential drop in split conductor systems is regulated by means of symmetrically variable double reactances. The singlephase reactance shown in Fig. 1 comprises two fixed coils 1, 2, one in series in each feeder, and two short-circuited coils 7, 8, mounted upon a right and left handed screw 11, with iron cores 3, side members 4, and yokes 5, 6. The core may be arranged radially or otherwise. The threephase reactance indicated in Fig. 5 has movable coils 19 to 24 and fixed coils 25 to 30 on a cornmon axis; in a modification, the coils are mounted on three parallel axes with screws connected by gearing.
