Abstract

611,761. Hydraulic reversing gear. PEREGRINE, E. P., and PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION.. May 7, 1946, No. 13774. [Class 69 (ii)] A hydraulic reversing gear comprises a fixed toroidal casing G, B having a ring member D fixed thereto, forming a toroidal channel. Impeller vanes F carried by a casing 2 mounted on a driving shaft 3, projects into the channel and a duct 4 connects the channel to an inlet 5. Pump diffuser vanes 9 receive liquid from the vanes F, the liquid then passing round the toroidal channel in planes containing the axis of the shaft to turbine nozzle blades 10 on the casing B thence to rotor blades 6 mounted on a driven shaft 8 around the driving shaft 3, and back to the impeller blades F. The blades F, 6 are of twisted aerofoil section. Ducts are provided in the casing to discharge liquid for temperature control.
