[Class 27] Coin-freed mechanism, similar to that of Specification 581,406, for permitting the use of a typewriter for a certain period after insertion of a coin, is provided with means for rendering the period adjustable. The mechanism is shown mounted in a casing 1 on which the typewriter A is placed. A locking bar B for the typewriter keys C is normally held in its forward locking position by a lever 12 through an intermediate lever 13, a pivoted lock member 14 holding the lever 12 in locking position (shown in broken lines) against the action of a spring 22. The mechanism is operated by a conventional coin-slide 24, which,.when thrust in, pivots a rocker 15 anti-clockwise (Fig. 1). The lock member 14 is connected with the rocker 15 by a spring 20 and so turns with it to release the lever 12 which is, however, now held by a lever 16 also actuated by the rocker 15. On the return of the coin-slide, the lever 16 returns and releases the lever 12 which moves under the action of its spring 22 to release the key locking bar B so that the typewriter can be operated. The coin-slide 24, when moved inwardly also engages and rocks a winding arm 8 on the main shaft 25a of a clock mechanism and sets a spring-loaded trip lever 11 so that a pin 11a on it engages in a notch 10c in a holding latch 10. When released by the coin slide, the clockwork winding arm 8 slowly returns, and finally trips the latch 10 by striking a part 10b thereof, the latch 10 releasing the trip lever 11 which is returned by its spring 19 and restores the key locking lever 12 into engagement with the lock member 14 in which position the typewriter keys are again locked. Engagement of the latch 10 by the winding arm 8 at the end of the period is by means of an eccentric disc 9 so that, by turning this disc, the moment of contact can be adjusted and the period of availability of the typewriter varied.
