Abstract

1,274,179. Locks. SCHLOSSFABRIK SCHULTE-SCHLAGBAUM A.G. 19 April, 1971 [10 April, 1970], No. 25881/71. Heading E2A. [Also in Division G4] A coin freed lock includes a catch 19, pivoted at 8' and engageable with its free end 19' in a notch 25 formed in the bolt 22 to prevent movement of the bolt to its locking position, the catch 19 being arranged to be moved out of the notch 25 by a coin 31 inserted into the lock so that the bolt can then be moved to its locking position by actuating a cylinder lock 9 with a first key, the lock also including a lever 17 arranged to be pivoted about 16 when the cylinder lock 9 is operated by a second (master) key so that arm 17" moves the catch 19 out of notch 25 and the bolt is moved to its locking position without inserting a coin. Coin action: The coin inserted at 28 is arrested in the position shown by a stop 29 and a pin 30, the latter normally projecting through a hole (not shown) in the bolt. Rotation of the cylinder of lock 9 by the first key acts through lever 13 and pin and slot 20, 21 to move the bolt and thus pin 30 leftwards, whereupon the edge of the coin frees catch 19 and keeps it clear of a notched profile 26, carried by the bolt. When the bolt reaches its locking position Fig. 3 (not shown), the coin falls between guides 39, 40 carried by the bolt and now positioned to the left of the position shown. The first key can now be withdrawn from lock 9. Reverse rotation of the cylinder of lock 9 by the first key restores all parts to their original positions and the coin falls through slot 41, e.g. into a collection box. The key cannot now be removed from the lock. The second (master) key, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), is formed with a transverse projection (45') which pivots lever 17 anticlockwise to free catch 19 when the second key is turned. Coin rejection. If the inserted coil is too small, it falls between stop 29 and pin 30 and out of a rejection slot 42. If a damaged coin is inserted at 28 or if a correct coin is inadvertently inserted, it can be recovered if bolt 22 is in the position shown, by depressing a button (not shown) to move a plate 32 carrying the pin 30 against the action of a spring 33, thus moving the pin 30 to an inoperative position allowing the coin to fall from the position shown. This imparting of movement to the pin 30 is prevented if the bolt 22 is in its locking position. Broken keys. If a part of a key should break off within the cylinder lock 9, and the bolt 22 is in its locking position, the broken part can be pushed further into and out of the back of the cylinder, through an aperture 47 in the bolt and out through a hole in the back plate of the lock casing, Fig. 5 (not shown). If the bolt is not in its locking position, the lock must be disassembled to push the broken part from the back of the cylinder out of the front thereof.
