Abstract

1415142 Coin operated locks SCHULTE SCHLAGBAUM AG 22 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973 31 March 1973] 02893/74 Heading G4V A lock has a locking member which can only be moved to a locking position after operation of two separate coin-operated mechanisms and means, which, when the locking member is in the locking position, is actuable to override one of the mechanisms after release of the coin therein, so that the locking member can subsequently be moved from and to the locking position without reoperation of that mechanism by another coin. A lock cylinder 11 supports an arm 13<SP>1</SP> which has a striker pin 13 that engages in a slot 14 in lock bolt 15. With bolt 15 withdrawn, key 16 cannot be removed. Head 17 of bolt 15 is U-shaped with a supplementary bolt 18 slidably mounted within. Bolt 18 has a cranked slot 19 in which pin 13 also engages, and has a striker 20 which is connected to spindle 21 of a handle 22. The spindle is slotted at the front to enable a supervisor to actuate bolt 18 from outside. A slot 23 guides bolt 15 and a pin 24 as the housing engages therein. Bolt 15 co-operates with rocker-shaped locking member 25. A stud 26 on the housing passes through slot 25<SP>111</SP> and carries a leg-spring 27. The ends of limbs 25<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>11</SP> are bent to engage openings 28, 29 in bolt 15 when it is withdrawn. There are two coin control points 30 and 31, 30 denotes a deposit coin whilst 31 is the collection coin. Coin 33 is held by shoulders 36 and 37 whilst coin 32 is held up by shoulders 38, 39. Shoulder 39-37 are on the bolt 15 whilst parts 36, 37 are on a plate 40 which is displaceable by actuator pin 41 to release the coin for money return. Shoulder 39 also supports lifting member 42 which is biased downwardly by spring 43. Pin 44 prevents clockwise rotation. Shoulder 39 may be moved in slot 45. Member 42 has a control projection 46. Striker pin 47 projects from bolt 15 and passes through hole 48 in Z-shaped slider 49. Hole 48 and slot 23 overlap so pin 24 can also guide slider 49. Arm 49<SP>1</SP> projects above opening 29. Arm 49<SP>11</SP> lies in the path of a holding pin 50 on a rotatable arm 51. The arm projects from spindle 52 of handle 53. Angularly offset arm 54 is provided which has a pin 55. This pin is flattened into a semicircular crosssection in the plane of the lifting member and projection 46. Handle 53 is biased anti-clockwise by a spring having arms 56 and 56<SP>1</SP>. When the bolt is withdrawn movement of the handle is limited by stop 57. Spindle 52 is associated with snap mechanism 58. A lever 59 is spring biased toward disc 63 and tooth 60 engages in indents 61, 62. When the bolt is withdrawn the lever is held down by pin 64 on the bolt. Operation.-As shown the lock is mounted on a bathroom door. From inside bolt 18 can be displaced by handle 22. This causes striker pin 13 to lie in slot arm 19<SP>1</SP> so that turning of core 12 is prevented. From the position of Fig. 2, key 16 is turned anti-clockwise and bolts 18 and 15 are displaced together. Coins 32, 33 are guided upwards by the shoulders on the housing, this causes them to act on the locking member 25 to lift it from openings 28, 29. The position shown in Fig. 4 is thus reached and key 16 can be removed. Handle 53 can now be set for interim-use or end-of-use. If end-of-use the handle is turned so that snap tooth 60 engages in indent 61. Withdrawal of the bolt then causes movement of slider 49 through spring 16. At the end of withdrawal central projection 46 acts on pin 55. Upward displacement of lifting member 42 is effected together with shoulder 39. The separation between the shoulder 38 and shoulder 39 allows coin 32 to fall and be returned. Turning handle 53 into the interim position, holding pin 50 under the action of end 56<SP>1</SP> of the torsion spring, moves in front of the Z-arm 49<SP>11</SP> of the slider 49. The handle is fixed by the blocking tooth of lever 59 engaging in detent 62. On withdrawal of the bolts slider 49 is held by pin 50 so that end 25<SP>11</SP> of member 25 cannot enter opening 29 in the bolt. Positioning of pin 55 in front of edge 57 prevents backward rotational displacement of the handle 53. Rotation in the other direction is prevented by pin 24 bearing against one end of hole 48. In an alternative embodiment there is no supplementary bolt and the lock can be operated by a master key which allows continued use thereafter as normal.
