Abstract
604,895. Coin-freed door locks. TONKS (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd., and TONKS, P. Dec. 10, 1945, No. 33289. [Class 27] Casings. The casing a, of a coin-freed lavatory door lock is permanently secured to the door, and the mechanism is carried by a removable cover plate c secured by a catch m accessible on removal of a second cover plate b giving access to the cash compartment of the casing and secured by a keyoperated lock d. The catch m in the construction shown is held in locking engagement with the mechanism cover c by the bolt g of the lock d when shot behind a cross-bar h of the casing to secure the cover b. Coin action, mechanical connection. A coin inserted through a slot p in the casing a passes between guides q, and comes to rest at 15, between abutments 13, 14 on the lock bolt y and an actuating slide z respectively The slide z is connected to the outside handle so that, with the coin in position, the bolt can be drawn by turning the handle. The coin is released and falls to the cash department when the door is drawn-to and the abutments 13, 14 thereby momentarily drawn apart. The bolt can also be drawn directly by means of an inside handle 10, or by a key from the outside. Indicators; coin-slit closing-devices. Actuation of the outside handle also raises an indicator plate t, the coin 15 as it carried forward by the abutment 14 on the actuating slide z rocking a bell-crank 16 on which the indicator rests. The bell-crank engages a slot in the indicator to hold it raised, and is rocked back to release the plate when the inside handle is turned, an arm 4 on the handle rocking a lever 18 which strikes a pin 17 on the bell-crank. The indicator is also adapted to be raised by shooting an additional inside bolt, a connecting peg 28 passing through the door, and connecting with a lever 30 also engaging under the indicator. The tail of lever 30 lies in the path of a projection 21 on the main bolt so that retraction of the main bolt is accompanied by retraction of the additional one. When the indicator plate t is raised it thrusts a ball 22 into the coin passage to prevent coins being inserted.
