Abstract
610,447. X-ray tubes. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. April 5, 1946, No. 10598. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] An X-ray tube has a rotary anode 4, Fig. 1, surrounded by a stationary screen 6 which has an aperture offset from the axis of rotation and opposite the cathode 7, the screen being electrically insulated from the cathode 7 and provided with a separate window 9 for the passage of X-rays. The screen 6, preferably of copper, is attached to the anode support 5 and the inside of the screen and the outside of the anode 4 are frosted or helically grooved and preferably coated with a dull black layer so that the screen 6 can absorb heat readily from the anode 4; the inner surface of the anode 4 and the adjacent surface of the anode support 5 may be similarly treated. The outer surface of the screen 6 is made smooth and highly reflecting. A cooling tube 13 is provided; the envelope consists of two glass portions 2, 3 sealed to a chrome iron portion 1, which is preferably earthed. A magnet system 19 is provided for rotating the anode 4, and the part of the screen 6 opposite the magnet poles (preferably not more than three) is provided with apertures to facilitate the passage of the magnetic flux. Specifications 385,938 and 501,253 are referred to.
