Abstract

534,843. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Sept. 20, 1939, No. 26230. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] In an X-ray tube the filamentary cathode 17 is supported by a cone 14 inside the annular copper anode 26, which has an annular target 29 and rotates; laminations 24 act as the rotor for the stator windings 32 set outside the tube and enclosed in shields 35, 36, the latter acting as a support for the whole tube. The large bearing 24 for the anode rotor forms part of the casing and acts as a heat radiator; it carries by means of a plate 32 the window 30 the metal of the plate having a coefficient of expansion similar to that of the window. One end of the cathode is connected to the detachable end 16 of the cone 14 and the other to an insulated lead 15 passing through the cone. An electron shield 20 is carried by the cone to protect the seal between the envelope and the ring 12 carrying the cone. The ring is perforated to allow for evacuation of the envelope. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a modification with a stationary anode ; the target is not annular and the anode itself forms part of the envelope. A cooling jacket surrounds the anode. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
