Abstract

610,238. Screw conveyers. HODGKINSON (SALFORD), Ltd., J., and FELSNER, O. April 2, 1946, No. 10154. [Class 78 (i)] In a mechanical stoker of the underfeed retort type, the fuel is apportioned by varying the speed of horizontal fluted rollers d in hopper A and is conveyed by constant speed screw conveyer c to the retort. In the Figures, shaft g of screw G is driven directly from motor H through gearbox G. Shaft g also drives shaft g<1> of the fluted rollers through arm g<4> which actuates ratchet wheel g<3> through pawl g<2>. Pawl g2 is adjusted by arm g<5> working over quadrant g<6> so as to rotate one or more ratchet teeth at each revolution of g. Motor H also works fan K which blows air through pipe m to the retort. The flow of air is regulated by adjustable damper m<1>.
