Abstract

The output shaft (2) carries a flywhee6 (E) and is driven by a chain (5) from the shaft (4), driven in turn by a chain from the shaft (10). The shaft (10) carries an arm (11) with a longitudinal slot in which a weight (12) can slide. The weight (12) carries a roller which runs in a circular channel (13) which is mounted eccentrically with respect to the axis of the shaft (10). As the shaft (10) rotates, the weight (12) is forced to reciprocate along the channel (11) so that it exerts a greater torque during the 180 deg. of its downward motion compared with the torque during its upward motion. A number of such devices are arranged on the shafts (4) and (10).
