Abstract
609,941. Making steam-generator parts. LOCOMOTIVE FIREBOX CO. March 26, 1946, No. 9298. Convention date, April 5, 1945. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Angular bending ; dies.-A thermosyphon for increasing the water circulation in locomotive &c. boilers is made from a sheet as shown in Fig. 1 by bending in a reciprocating machine and then welding the edges. The bender is driven from an electromotor 58 and the dies 57, 53 are interchangeable according to the operation. The position of the stroke is adjusted by an electromotor 56a rotating a screw 56c through gearing 56b. The sheet is located on the dies by pins on the latter engaging holes 33a in the sheet. The edges 29, 30 are first curled in dies, then the edges 40 are flanged and the sheet bent U-shape about the line 27. A mandrel is then inserted into the U and secured by bolts through the holes 33a and U rectified. The ears 33 are then removed and the edges welded and tie bolts fitted in the holes 41. The extension 28 is formed to cylindrical shape. In a modification, the extension is omitted from the blank and a separate tube welded in place. U.S.A. Specification 1,676,733 is referred to.
