Abstract
609,541. Impedance networks. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. March 15, 1946, No. 8113. Convention date, July 29, 1941. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (c)] In a low-frequency amplifier circuit the volume control which comprises a potentiometer in series with an impedance between grid and .cathode, and has associated with it negative feed-back which increases as the control moves towards the low-volume position, the volume is reduced to zero by connecting the end of the potentiometer not connected to the impedance across which the feed-back is applied, to the movable contact of a second potentiometer which has the voltages to be amplified applied across it and of which one end is connected to the cathode of the amplifier valve the two potentiometers being controlled in the same sense by a common operating member. In the Figure, negative feed-back is shown as applied from a source 10 and the arrangement is such that when the contacts are at B and D respectively the volume is reduced to zero. Frequency dependent networks 16, 17 and 11, 18 may be associated with potentiometer 13 and negative feed-back source 10 and are so proportioned that when the volume controls are displaced towards the low-volume position, amplification of the low frequencies decreases to a lesser extent than that of the higher frequencies.
