[Class 123(ii)] In boiler emptying, washing-out and refilling apparatus, the blown-out steam and water is directed by a pipe 2 to a combined separator and filter 1 which is provided with a steam outflow pipe 3, water outflow pipe, not shown, and a sludge pipe 4 leading to a drain, the latter pipe 4 being provided with a butterfly valve 6 which is normally held in an open position by a counterweight 11, adjustably mounted on a bell-crank lever 9, 10 fast with the valve spindle 8, but is adapted to be closed during the blowing operation by a thermostat 24 located in the separator 1 in the path of the incoming hot blown-out mixture. The thermostat 24 actuates a valve in a valve-box 25 which controls a supply of pressure fluid to and its discharge from a cylinder 18 locating a piston 19 connected to the bell-crank 9, 10 of the valve 6 by a rod 20, a second bell-crank 14, 15, and a link 16, said box 25 being provided with a pressure fluid, e.g. water, inlet pipe 26, a pipe 27 leading to and from the cylinder 18, and a drain pipe 28.
