Abstract
608,554. Coke ovens. WILPUTTE COKE OVEN CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1946, No. 6039. Convention date, March 24, 1945. [Class 51(ii)] Air is supplied to an underjet regenerative coke oven battery from the basement space 9 which is kept free from the dust arising from the discharging of the retorts, by connecting it to the atmosphere by a channel 36 which runs the whole length of the battery, on one side thereof, and-has one or both ends open where the atmosphere is .substantially free of dust. The channel 36 is connected with the basement space through spaced openings 41, and, if desired, a blower may be arranged at one end of the channel 36 to produce a pressure in the basement space. The sole channels 5 are connected reversibly to the waste heat flue 10 and the basement space 9 by passages 17, 13 which are controlled by valves 14, 15, 16. The passages 13 may be throttled by removable members 13a. The fuel gas channels 26 are supplied from cross-mains 28, which are operative alternately and are supplied from a main 30 through a three-way valve 32 and shut-off valve 33. A decarbonizing air-main 35 is provided and the three way valve is operated by the usual automatic reversal mechanism.
