Abstract
607,599. Pulse-generating circuits. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. April 18, 1945, No. 9770. Convention date, April 18, 1944. [Class 40 (vi)] In a thermionic generator, an oscillatory circuit is shock excited by an applied wavefront and quenched after performing the first half cycle of oscillation, which is clipped and amplified to form a rectangular pulse. In the Figure, a square voltage waveform is fed to grid 12 from terminal 11. The first part of the wave has no effect on the anode current since grid current limitation occurs, but the negative going edge cuts off valve section 13 and shock excites the tuned cathode circuit 20, 21. The first negative half cycle of oscillation drives valve section 26 well beyond cut-off, but during the following positive half-cycle, grid 27 draws current and damps-out further oscillation. Accordingly, a positive rectangular pulse develops across anode load 29, and the width of the pulse may be controlled by the variable impedance network 23, 24 in parallel with the tuned circuit.
