Abstract

606,748. Bogie trucks. SINCLAIR, F. W., and GLOUCESTER RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1946, No. 1692. [Class 103 (vi)] A bogie truck for rail vehicles comprises side frames A, each provided with a bolster opening H, flanked by vertical guide surfaces between which the ends of a bolster C are supported on springs D, and the load of the body E is transmitted to the bolster C by means of side bearers 10 on each side of an unloaded centre pivot F. Each side bearer 10 has a renewable facing 11 of a friction material such as manganese steel or asbestos composition material. The socket 12 in the bolster receiving the centre pivot F is bell-mouthed to permit a limited angling movement. The bolster C is formed near its ends with a vertical web 2, while the side frames A each include an upper compression member 4 and a lower tension member 5. The side frames may be built up from steel sections, plates or pressings by riveting or welding or may be cast of steel or aluminium alloy in one piece with the axle-boxes.
