606,333. Typewriters &c. NATIONAL MARKING MACHINE CO. April 5, 1945, No. 9913/48. Convention date, April 5, 1944. Divided out of 606,262. [Class 100(iv)] In laundry-marking machines of the kind comprising type-wheels 19 situated between side members 10, 11 and adapted to present selected types 20 at printing position, a type-cleaning device is provided on each side of the printing position and is so situated peripherally as to rest inoperative between the faces of adjacent types when the types are in selected position, whereby when the types are moved in either direction they pass a cleaning-device and ink is removed therefrom before the types move above the horizontal plane containing the axes of the type-wheels, thus avoiding draining of ink from the type faces into the operating- mechanism of the machine. As shown, each cleaning-device consists of a roller formed in a number of sections 74, one for each type wheel, covered with felt and strung on a shaft 71 carried by bearing blocks 67 mounted in the forked ends 65 of posts 64 slidable in radial guides 60 and pressed inwardly by springs 76: the rollers besides cleaning the types assist in aligning the type-wheels. The shaft 71 passes through a plain hole in one bearing and screws into the other. The machine comprises a pneumatically-operated platen 61 substantially as described in Specification 569,457.
