627,868. Printing-machines. REGGIANI, A. Oct. 23, 1946, No. 31497. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1941. [Class 100 (ii)] A machine which is especially applicable for printing on the selvedges of fabrics, or on knitted fabrics, is constructed with a stamping device 2 over which passes two or more dry inkedribbons which print indelible marks. In one form the selvedge A, Fig. 1, is placed by hand against registering marks 21 between the die 3 of stamp 2 and a counter die 6, and the stamp is lowered by means of a pedal or the like. Three ribbons 7, 8, 9 of different colours are mounted in a frame 1 connected to the stamp 2, and the ribbons are passed under a spring- pressed roller 14 carried by rods 15, and are returned over means for advancing them intermittently to other spools mounted on shafts 12, 13, Fig. 2 (not shown), in the frame 1.. After one impression on the selvedge it is moved in a direction parallel to the axes of the ink-ribbon rolls and registered for a second impression. In a modification, Fig. 3, the selvedge A is advanced intermittently by power, and the whole operation is controlled from a driven shaft 38. The selvedge is unwound from a roller 24 and wound up on a roller 25 driven by a roller 29 operated by a rack on a rod reciprocated by a slotted disc 39 on the shaft 38, the rack driving the roller 29 via gears 45, 46, 40, which drive in one direction only. The frame 1 and die 2 are constructed as in Fig. 1 and are operated by a lever 35 oscillated by a cam 37 and connected by a link 34 to the frame 1 and die 3 which are supported by a carriage 32.
