Abstract

321,526. Howard, E. J., and Howard, C. E. M. Oct. 11, 1928. Printing - surfaces. - In marking or printing machines, a rotary brush for cleaning the types is arranged so that it is normally stationary and out of contact with the type, but is automatically brought into operation during each printing cycle of the machine. In the arrangement shown, a brush A is mounted on a sliding platen carrier C co-operating with a series of type-wheels H. The brush A is provided at one end with a friction wheel F for engagement with a continuously driven friction wheel G when the platen is withdrawn after impression. The wheel G has a sliding movement on guide rods and is pressed downwards by springs so that it can yield in relation to the wheel F. Instead of being mounted on the platen carrier, the brush may be mounted on the fitting carrying the ink-pad or on an independent fitting operated bv the same mechanism that actuates the ink-pad.
