Abstract

Dating railway tickets and the like; franking-machines; platen machines.- In printing-machines for ticket-dating, numbering, franking, and the like, of the type comprising a support 6 for the ticket &c. adapted by inserting a ticket to be moved in one direction to raise the printing-type 10 from an inking- pad 9 and press it on to the ticket, and on motion in the reverse direction to lift the type from the ticket and cause it to descend on the pad, the support 6 and inking-pad 9 are constituted by a segmental plate secured to a lever 3 pivoted at 4 to the base of the machine. The types 10 are fixed in the end of a lever 21 actuated by toggle levers 23, 25 from the lever 3, which has a pin-and-slot connection 27, 26 with the toggle levers 25 whereby a quick up and down movement is imparted to the type 10 when printing. A known form of type-changing device mav be employed for printing consecutive numbers. The mechanism is enclosed in a box 1 having detachable side plates and a hinged top 2. Inclined guides 7 and a stop 8 are provided on the support 6 to ensure correct location of the ticket. Holders for loose types. - The types 10 are fixed in a holder 11, Fig. 3, by a set-screw 12, and are held against displacement by a bar 13 pivoted on a screw 14 and engaging below a screw 14<a>. Inking-apparatus.-Ink is supplied from a container 15, Fig. 2, through a slot 16, the supply being controlled by means of a slide 17. The container is mounted on a lever 18 pivoted at 19 and is spring-pressed against the pad 9 to seal the slot. A roller 20 carried by the container distributes the ink on the pad.
