681,739. Laundry marking machines. TEXTILE MARKING MACHINE CO., Inc. April 13, 1950 [April 13, 1949], No. 9160/50. Class 100 (iv). A printing machine for printing identifying characters on articles 4 to be laundered comprises a row of settable typewheels 1 and a platen 3 operable to press the article to be printed towards the type 2 against an ink ribbon guided lengthwise over a row of type at an angle to the printing line so that the impression of the row of type is inclined relatively to the ribbon with the top of the first character adjacent one edge of the ribbon and the bottom of the last character is adjacent the other edge. In operation the article 4 is held on the platen 3 and moved towards the printing line by a lever 5 which is pivoted to the frame at 6. The ribbon guide 13 is carried by a pair of unequallength arms 14, 15 mounted on a rocking frame 25 so that as the lever 5 is rocked a part 24 thereon engages the frame 25 and moves the ribbon against the type 2. The ribbon is advanced by a rock arm 12 actuated by a link 9 attached to the arm 5.
