[Classes 100 (ii) and 100 (iv)] Pad inking - arrangements.-An inking-device for laundry-marking machines or other printing-machines comprises an ink reservoir 14, Fig. 4, having a slot at its top and an inking-pad 18 located above this slot, an absorbent feeder 21 in the slot with its upper end in contact with the pad and its lower end projecting into the reservoir, and a presser plate 20 adjustably engaging the side of the feeder to regulate the flow of ink. The type-wheels 11, Fig. 1, are mounted on a printing-head 10 to make impression on a platen 13. The presser plate 20 is adjusted by screws 23. A filling tube is provided at the side of the reservoir, and an air passage passes through the feeder 21. The reservoir is pivoted to a bar 25 to which it is also connected by a spring so that, when the pad 18 touches the type it is rocked to a position of parallelism. The bar 25 is connected by a link 33 to a lever 31 pivoted to the frame and by links 28 to the printing head. Pins 29 on the links 28 engage in slots 32 in the levers 31, and springs 34 connect the levers 31 to the printing- head. When the printing-head moves downward the reservoir is first tilted and then when the pin 29 reaches the end of the slot 32 is swung out of the way of the head. During the tilting ink is splashed on to the feeder 21. In the return movement the lever 31 is moved first by the spring 34 until it engages an abutment 30a, and the reservoir is then tilted back to touch the type-wheel.
