Abstract
605,263. Aerials. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. April 26, 1945, No. 10573. Convention date, June 27, 1942. [Class 40 (vii)] A directive aerial system, particularly for use on aircraft, comprises two conductive tubes 10 each with a longitudinal slot 12, the circumference of the tube being approximately a half-wave length and the tubes being excited in antiphase. As shown in Fig. 3, the tubes are arranged side by side, separated by a distance D equal to a half wavelength, on the front of an aeroplane wing 30. The length of each tube is preferably about one wavelength and the slot may be filled with a plastic dielectric. In another arrangement, Fig. 4, in which the tubes are arranged one in front of the other, each tube is formed, by a curved plate 40 mounted at one end on, and spaced at its. other end a short distance from, a conducting plate 45 such as the side wall of an aeroplane fuselage. The tubes are excited in anti-phase by concentric line sections TL1, TL2 and a phasechanging network 46.
